Tuesday Tales - Puzzle

It`s time for Tuesday Tales!

Today we have a snippet from Life According to Liam, my recently completed MM hockey romance novella. I’d found this half-finished tale in my files recently and fell back in love with the premise as I read over what I’d written way back in 2016. Since I haven't started my next project yet, you all get another peek into this sweet and sexy novella!

A short synopsis is that web-designer Mike Kneller took in his younger sister when she turned up pregnant at sixteen and their parents threw her out. Now he helps keep an eye on his nephew, Liam, as he works at home. Mike also blogs on the side, and his blog is titled ‘Life According to Liam’. Mike is a huge fan of the Pittsburgh Ravens and their goalie, Bryn Mettler.

Life being what it can be, Bryn is shown Mike’s blog and the star netminder finds himself drawn to the man with the sparkling green eyes and easy laugh. The two meet and sparks fly. In this scene, Mike and Liam are conversing while watching the home team, the Pittsburgh Ravens, playing hockey.

Our word prompt today is “Puzzle”.

This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!

"Uncle Mike, Captain America says it's time to watch your land gauge."
I grimaced and then slowly turned to look down on Liam, wearing a stern look, cradling his stuffed Captain America doll.
"I'm sorry, Cap," I said to the battered superhero. "I'll try to do better."
"It's okay. Your tongue is just bad," Liam informed me then ran off with Cap to right a wrong somewhere else in the house.
I rolled my eyes to the ceiling and hurried to finish. The dryer buzzed just as I was turning off the overhead light in the kitchen.
"My jersey is dry!" Liam bellowed and raced around me. Where poor Captain America went was a puzzle to be solved later.
"Inside voice," I reminded the tornado as it blew past me. A couple of minutes later, Liam, Cap, and I sat on my sectional in warm shirts. Well, Cap wasn't in a warm shirt, but I'm sure the fires of righteousness that burn in his chiseled chest keep him warm. "Speaking of chiseled chests," I mumbled as the Ravens pregame show hit the air with a stunning image of Bryn Mettler taking part in a photoshoot for swimwear. "What a great looking man," I sighed wistfully while folding underwear emblazoned with PAW Patrol characters. He was tall, dark, and handsome. His brown hair and dark brown eyes made me stupid, as did the perfectly groomed dark stubble that always lingered artfully on his firm jaw.
"Uncle Mike, are you going to date with Bryn Mettler?" Liam asked. My gaze flew from the TV screen to my nephew.
"Why would you ask that?" I enquired of the lad. He rolled to his back and stuck his little red sneakers into the air.
"Mommy said before she dated with Aaron tonight that he was handsome." Liam stared at me as the pregame show slid into an interview with the Ravens defensive coach. "You likes handsome boys, so is you and Bryn Mettler going to be dated?"
I couldn't keep the soft chuckle from escaping. There we had this week's blog post. My nephew was a comedic gold mine. Liam's fine golden eyebrows tangled as I battled to get myself under control.
"I wish Bryn Mettler would ask me out on a date," I said to the boy. He reached up to touch the tips of his toes, a feat that made my hamstrings scream just looking at it, and chewed on my answer like a glob of taffy. Kelly and I had always been open about my being gay. We wanted Liam to grow up in an accepting household. He already knew that men could date and marry other men and that if he liked boys instead of, or in addition to, girls, that was perfectly normal.
"Does Bryn like boys too?" Liam asked as he picked at his sneakers.
"Yes he does, I’m just not sure he likes boys who look like me.”
He took that at face value and then launched into a story about Hulk eating peanut butter cookies. I shook my head, smiling all the while, and returned to folding toddler clothing and watching the Ravens, and that sinfully sexy Bryn Mettler, roll over their competition.

British Holiday

It’s been a whirlwind summer filled with travel so far! My daughter and I took our first international trip last week and visited the beautiful country of Great Britain. We stayed with my friend and coauthor, RJ Scott and her delightful family, who were incredible tour guides and kept us laughing the entire time!

We had a day in London where we got to ride the London Eye, enjoy a boat ride along the Thames, and enjoy the city on top of a double-decker tour bus.

There were days spent visiting quaint English villages such as Weedon and Castle Combs.

Trips to stately manors also filled our days. We had a delicious cream tea at Clivedon Manor one day then walked the grounds to enjoy the flowerbeds.

Wales – and a graduation from Cardiff U. for RJ’s daughter awaited – so we made our way there with a short stop in Bristol for a meet and greet. After a night in a grand old hotel we arrived in Wales where we spent some time at Chepstow Castle along the River Wye.

As a huge Torchwood/Dr. Who fan, I had to spend some time at Mermaid Quay in Cardiff Bay. I got to stand right where they filmed quite a few scenes for Jack, Ianto, and the gang. Talk about exciting!

On the way home we made a small trip to Stonehenge. It was a mystical, magical experience that I will never forget.

Our eight days went so quickly! We’re looking forward to returning to Great Britain soon. The people are so welcoming and warm, the food is delicious (I do love me some pie ‘n’ mash) and the countryside is stunning. If you’ve never been to the UK please consider visiting. You will not be disappointed!

Tuesday Tales - Picture Prompt

It`s time for Tuesday Tales.

Today we have a snippet from Liam According to Liam, my current MM hockey romance novella. I’d found this half-finished tale in my files recently and fell back in love with the premise as I read over what I’d written way back in 2016. Since this is close to being done, this might be the only peek into this novella that I’ll be able to share. Don’t hate me! *hides behind couch*

Life being what it can be, Bryn is shown Mike’s blog and the star netminder finds himself drawn to the man with the sparling green eyes and easy laugh. The two meet and sparks fly.

In this scene, Mike and Bryn are having coffee at a small eatery. This week is our picture prompt and all snippets must be 300 words or thereabouts.

This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!

I found out a few weeks later, when I joined him for lunch in a small eatery just a block down from the arena. It was a quaint little place smack dab in the city, decorated with country furnishings such as butter churns and hutch cupboards painted white and blue, calico drapes, and old-fashioned paintings of farms on the white-washed walls.

“How was morning skate?” I asked as I dumped some cream into my coffee.

“Well enough. We’ll see if performance improves on the ice tonight. Michael, I’m glad you could join me here on such short notice. I know you’ve been working on your job requests.”

“Please, as if filling out another online job submission can compare to joining you for coffee and Danish.” I smiled at him but got a skittish sort of look in return. A flicker of unease lit up in my belly. “Is there something wrong?”

“No, no. Nothing wrong just…” he trailed off, his gaze on the dark blue mug resting between his palms. He raised his eyes from his coffee to me. “I want you to move in with me.” We sat there staring at each other like two dimwitted dolts. When I said nothing in reply because my brain had screeched to a sudden stop, he fumbled over himself to try to make things less awkward. “I know that was sudden, yes? Yes, it was too sudden, but we’ve been dating for several months now and I’ve been contemplating bringing up the subject but…well, life would interfere, or I’d lose confidence in myself. Then Liam called me Uncle Bryn and somehow, deep down, I knew that I wanted to be part of your family. I want more than what we have now, Michael. I want to wake up beside you every day, see you blink awake and glance at me then smile as you do as if I were the most glorious thing on the planet.”

Lost in Indigo Release Day!!

 #Gay #Genderflux #Hockey #Romance

There’s all kind of excitement in the air for Lost in Indigo, Colors of Love #1, which is live today, so let’s get right to the news and links!

**~**

It’s always a whirlwind of jitters kicking off a new series. Worry over if the books will be well-received jangles every authorly nerve, even if you’re an old hand at this writing stuff. Thankfully early reviews are now coming in and readers seem to be loving Lost in Indigo, Colors of Love #1!

The Colors of Love books will be stand-alone hockey romances that will cover a wide variety of tropes such as May/December, Bi-for-You, second chances, and opposites attract just to name a few. Each book will, as all of my stories do, deal with social issues, team dynamics, and personal growth all sprinkled heavily with lots of lusty romance!

Here are a few quick snippets from reviews for Mat and Indigo’s romance –

“I enjoyed this book so much. Indigo leapt off the page. I swear I could almost smell his scent he was that real. Together the men made a interesting pair. Mat’s gruff exterior combined with his soft loving center. Indigo’s incandescence and total love for Mat. Very nice supporting cast (with one exception, but she jumped off the page too). Nice story!”

Ramona – OMGReads Goodreads Review

“Altogether a truly hot read, this book is also an emotionally connected love story between men who shouldn't work on paper but who are perfect for each other.”

Cadiva – Goodreads Review

Mathieu Beresford was so close to seeing his dream come true.

The thirty-eight-year-old captain of the Buffalo Surge had led his team to the final round of the playoffs with his aggressive defensive play and leadership. During the first game of the championship series, he was taken down, and his leg snapped upon impact with the boards. From his hospital bed, Mathieu watched his team go on to win it all.

Adrift in anger, resentment, and the new direction of his life, he returns to his mansion along the St. Lawrence River. Alone and sulking, Mathieu is not prepared for Indigo Neu to enter his life. The genderflux twenty-year-old botany major signs on to play nursemaid, confidant, and groundskeeper over the summer and slowly leads Mathieu out of his confusion––one tender smile and touch at a time.

The deeper Mathieu falls, the more he wonders if being lost might not be so bad after all.

Tuesday Tales - Worn

It`s time for Tuesday Tales.

Today we have an excerpt from Ryker, Owatonna U. Hockey #1, a new adult MM hockey romance novel I’m coauthoring with RJ Scott. Our word today is “Worn”.

In our snippet today, Jacob and his roommate and fellow Owatonna U. teammate, Ben, the starting goalie, have a little heart-to-heart. This excerpt is from Jacob’s POV.

This story may have gay erotic scenes, strong social issues addressed and mature language. If those things offend now is the time to move onto another Tuesday Tales blog. Thanks for stopping by!

“I’m focused on the fact that I’m going to be late to work and get fired then I’ll be poor and unable to eat,” I replied, shoving to my feet. “Thanks though. I feel loads better.”

“You know what just might make you feel even better?” Ben looked up at me. I shrugged then went to my dresser to find some clean clothes, but they were few and far between. I needed to do laundry today too. Miserable to-do list never got any shorter.

“A raging drunk?” I said as I dug for clean socks and found two that didn’t match.

“Ah no, talking to Ryker and working out this twisted romance the two of you are caught up in.”

I looked over my shoulder, one black sock and one white sock in hand. “I have no idea what you’re talking about. Go back to meditating and doing dog poses dude.”

“Mm-hmm, whatever. I’m just saying that if I had a man who looked like Ryker and was obviously as hot for me as he is for you, I’d be acting on that.”

I had to turn around to look at him now. “Uh, since when are you into dudes?”

“I’ve always been into just about anyone, I just don’t broadcast it. I like my guys a little older is all.”

“Ah, well okay. I’ll for sure meditate on all of that while I scrub pots and mop the floor.”

I opted to go without socks that day. As hard as I tried to not spend my eight-hour shift mulling over the blisters on my heels or Ryker I found myself wondering if maybe Ben had a point about Ryker, me, and the twisted mess that was, at one time, a beautiful romance about to burst into bloom. Fighting the attraction wasn’t working, if anything, it was grinding me down into the ground even deeper. I wanted him still. I’d never stopped wanting him. He brought light and energy and laughter to my life and those were good things. Things that every living thing needed. Things that I needed to survive this world that just kept piling more and more weight on me.

I spent hours staring at soap bubbles and seeing Ryker’s face in the foam. Perhaps if I cultivated this withered and worn relationship with Ryker I’d have someone to help carry the burdens. Oh man, and someone to make me smile again would be super fucking nice. Maybe we could at least be friends if nothing else since I’d probably killed any chance for something deeper.

Maybe instead of trying to choke it out like a weed I should give it a little sun and some fertilizer… I mean, I was a farmer after all. If I couldn’t make good feelings grow then who could?

Pucks & Percentages # 17

I have to wonder if things in Carlisle have calmed down any since last weeks topsy-turvy chapter!? Time to find out!
