Fandom Friday Review - Grace and Frankie

Oh, this show. I honestly doubt that I can find the words to explain just how much I adore “Grace and Frankie” but I must try. So, here goes…

I’ve seen lots of half hour sitcoms in my day. Most are less than memorable.

There are a few exceptions. “Scrubs” comes to mind, as well as a spattering of British comedies and “Will and Grace” as well. It’s been many a year since I’ve found a show that makes me laugh every single episode.

Also, can we just give a shout-out to Netflix for taking on a show that’s about older people who are still having sex? Yes, world. That doesn’t stop when you hit forty. You might not recall where you parked the car but you can sure as hell remember how to make the bed springs squeak! Oh, and thanks to Grace and Frankie for inventing a vibrator that’s made for the older woman. That is one badly needed item!

From top to bottom and side to side, this show is brilliant. If you’re not familiar here’s the official blurb:

For as long as they can recall, Grace and Frankie have been rivals. Their one-upmanship comes crashing to a halt, however, when they learn that their husbands have fallen in love with each other and want to get married. As everything around the ladies is coming apart, the only thing they can really rely on is each other.

The show touches on so many important social issues with humor, grace, dignity, and stellar acting. The leads are amazing as are the secondary characters. The jokes are crisp, sharp, and well timed, and the important issues are always handled with care and love. And the cast! Well, just look at the four main leads. Talk about superstar power!

It’s a wonderful show for anyone, really. It’s not just for those of us fifty and over. Anyone who loves friendship and family will adore “Grace and Frankie”. It’s a rare and ageless gem.
