Author/Book Spotlight & Gift Card Giveaway - R.J. Scott's The Code Ice Dragons #1

Please welcome a new friend, the lively and lovely R.J. Scott! Today she's here to talk about hockey and hockey romance. Two of my favorite things!

Obsession and things

I’ve always loved Ice Hockey, well, as far back as I remember, to the year that Torvill and Dean won Gold with Bolero. That was when I first saw it, and was just gob smacked at how fast and dangerous and sexy it was. I live in England, and we don’t have a lot of exposure to Ice Hockey here – we have the Elite League, Cardiff, Edinburgh, there is even a team only fifteen miles up the road from me – The MK Lightning, although, they aren’t in Elite at the moment (soon though).

Fast forward and I have always read hockey books. I’m not much into American football, and baseball just bores me (reminds me too much of cricket – too slow!). But Hockey? That is fast and passionate and did I mention, sexy. So I found this group, The Sin Bin, and I joined, and watched and commented, and found some new authors to read. I’m sure I have run out of hockey books to read now and I wait (not so patiently) for my favorite authors to release new books for me to devour.
But I never supported a US team, because… well… life happened, and I’m in England, and also I have a tendency to get passionately involved in anything I like to the point where it just won’t leave me alone.

So, I announced in the group that I needed a team to follow. Bear in mind that I knew nothing concrete about US Hockey, and the only name I really know is Sidney Crosby, because even he gets mentioned over here, and in the UK coverage of hockey (when it happens, which isn’t a lot of times!). I decided to look at stats, news reports and… no wait, I actually didn’t do any of that.
I opened Google and typed in *sexy NHL players*.

Well, I skimmed the list, and you’d laugh if you could see the way my tongue hung out. People in the group were throwing names at me, Tyler, Johnny, Patrick (several of those) and of course, Sidney.
I realized that one guy jumped out at me… well two actually… and that pretty much made up my mind. It was a simple equation.

The beautiful Kris Letang + the steel jawed sexy Sidney Crosby = Pittsburgh Penguins

And hey, I like penguins, they are cute. I did however have to look up where Pittsburgh was, LOL.
There was me deciding, and then I find out the Pens might make it to the end of round one of the playoffs, and I thought, yay, this is cool.
Then they only went and won the Stanley cup!!!!
I think, clearly, that I am a good luck charm. Nods.
I also fell for Geno, Rusty, and Horny, and Hags, and Kessel, and… you can see where I’m coming from.

Then of course, I had to write my own hockey book. Because, I’m a writer and I can’t leave it alone now. LOLs. The Code will be out in October, and is about a D with anger issues and his best friends little sister.

Goodreads The Code

And as to where I got the name for the team, The Ice Dragons, from? I love Vermont, so decided to set the team there, and was researching and found Dragon boat races on Lake Champlain… this had to be done! So, the Burlington Ice Dragons team was born, an expansion team from back in 2010, not champions, but holding their own, finding their rhythm… I’m so excited, and have done so much research, guided by the awesome Lace Barton, a fellow Penguin fan who is explaining everything to me every time I have a question. Love that girl!

It's bad enough I've got V.L.'s books in my TBR begging to be read, now I have an RJ Scott hockey book that needs attention too! :)

Please continue to be a good luck charm for the Penguins! They are one of my favorite teams and it was so awesome to watch them win again this year.

Congrats on the release. I'm looking forward to reading it.

I support the Predators because Peks was my 1st NHL love! I support the Sharks because they were the 1st team I started watching when I discovered hockey! Sexiest player would have to be Holtby when he does the water bottle to the hair thing!

Looks like a great book. Good luck! I've always been a Chicago Blackhawks fan. My current favorit player is Jonathan Toews.

I'm the same as you - we don't have ice hockey here but man, it's sexy as hell and I love a good story about ice hockey romance!

I'm a die hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan. When I was first introduced to hockey they were the closest team to me and even though we now have a team an hour away, I have stayed loyal to my Pens. Plus, I have the hot Kris Letang to watch.

Vancouver Canucks! Got to cheer for the local team! He's retired now, but Markus Naslund is who I think of when they were at their peak!

I don't watch sports, I prefer to play them. But I do like to read about them, a few of my recent reads are series like Scoring Chances by Avon Gale, Eastshore Tigers by Alison Hendricks, and Glasgow Lads by Avery Cockburn. Great books. =)

Detroit Red Wings! Love them. Right now the roster is full of gorgeous guys. I don't live close to any teams, but I do drive to Nashville TN (3 hours) at least once a month to get my fix of a live game.

I don't follow hockey, but it is fun to read.

Ok first off..Penguins are adorable! Having said that I don't follow hockey. BUT....I do enjoy football and as far as reading about any particular sport? I will read them all. As long as there are hot guys, romance, HEA and a little turmoil to make it interesting. :)

I have been an Edmonton Oiler fan since I was a child, but I also cheer for the San Jose Sharks since they have a player who came from my hometown.

I'm not a hockey fan simply because hockey is not common sport where I live. I'm much more familiar with football (as in soccer), basketball and volleyball. But I do love reading books with hockey (especially ice hockey). More so when there's paranormal element in it! :)
